Our two day Conference in June ’09 was a great success, much to our relief considering it was the 1st after 10 years! The venue was enjoyed by all who attended, although one or two thought it was a bit off the beaten track, not so easy to get to by public transport. Once there, you needed to go no further, all the facilities you could wish for were available, and people enjoyed the peace and tranquillity as well as the beauty of the surroundings.

The two days were fast and furious with interesting and thought provoking presentations, useful and informative workshops, and many lively ‘breakout’ discussions taking place throughout. Everyone worked hard over the two days but all attendees commented on how much they enjoyed themselves and how very useful and worthwhile the Conference was to them. Fast as the pace was, we did find time to catch up with old colleagues and welcome some new faces to the BAPLA community as well.

It wasn’t all hard work though, we did have a very entertaining evening on Monday. We had a sumptuous banquet and the wine flowed. The entertainment during the meal was absolutely brilliant, funny musical and lively, and there wasn’t a single comment to the contrary! Our ‘After Dinner Speaker’ was Johnny Ball, of mathematical fame. He kept us entertained for an hour and then was the topic of conversation for a little while after that too……  Then, of course, we retired to the bar and everyone rounded off Day 1 in a manner that suited them best.

The BAA gratefully acknowledges the generous support from all our sponsors which made the conference possible. A huge thank you to APL2000, The Carlisle Group, Dyalog Ltd, [Kx] Systems, MicroAPL, Catalyst Communications and Optima Systems Ltd.

We would also like to thank all who joined us at the BAPLA09 Conference for their support and good wishes. Without exception, everyone wants us to do it again within the next year or perhaps two, so watch out for signs; we will keep you up to date with plans and give you plenty of notice next time.
